Flanged Linear Ball Bearings

A flanged linear ball bearing is a rolling-element linear bearing that combines a standard linear ball bearing with an integrated mounting flange for direct attachment to machine frames, plates, or carriages. Typically available with round or square flange options, these bearings act as a single part that both supports the shaft and bolts to the machine. Double-sized variants are typically available with the flange mounted either at the end or in the center, depending on the required mounting layout and load-support arrangement.
Flanged linear ball bearings from PBC Linear use the heat-treated alloy steel outer cylinder of a standard linear ball bearing, formed with an integrated flange for easy installation and secure alignment. The inner bore retains the standard rolling-element assembly, with a molded polymer ball retainer holding recirculating hardened steel balls, secured by end rings and protected by standard double seals. This design delivers smooth, quiet, low-friction straight-line motion and is better suited than plain bearings for higher speeds, longer strokes, and overhanging cantilevered loads where plain bearings may bind due to the 2:1 rule. However, linear ball bearings typically require more maintenance than plain bearings, including periodic lubrication and greater care to keep debris, contamination, shock, and vibration away from the rolling elements. Round or square flanged configurations include standard-size bearings, plus double-size end-mount and center-mount designs for applications that need more shaft support.
Constructed with a durable steel housing, with optional stainless steel available for corrosion resistance, these bearings operate from -20°C to 80°C (-4°F to 176°F), reach maximum speeds up to 8 m/s (315 in/s), and support static load capacities up to 166,000 lb (740 kN). Available in inch, ISO metric, and JIS metric sizes, they include options such as O-ring grooves, retaining ring grooves, and seal materials including nitrile rubber, urethane, or Viton® for IDs of 1/2" or 20 mm and larger.
