PBC Linear provides Simplicity® plain linear bearings, linear guides, and linear actuators for electronics and communications equipment where compact design, precision, cleanliness, and repeatable motion are critical. These components support print head positioning, scanning systems, etching equipment, automated kiosks, media handling, and adjustable infrastructure by moving parts, tools, sensors, and assemblies with smooth, reliable control. Simplicity® plain bearings deliver grease-free, maintenance-free motion in high-cycle environments, while linear guides and actuators provide accurate positioning, reduced downtime, and consistent performance in demanding electronics manufacturing and communication system applications.
Automated video rental machine
Automated rental and dispensing machines rely on compact, high-speed linear motion to retrieve, position, and return media or packaged products quickly and reliably. In this example, V & L Inc. needed a space-saving linear guide system for a DVD rental machine that could support fast, accurate movement during disc retrieval and return cycles.
PBC Linear recommended Redi-Rail® linear guides, using a precision cam-roller design with a patented side-adjustable preload carriage. This allowed the machine builder to fine-tune carriage fit, reduce play, and maintain smooth, quiet motion at high speeds. Driven by advanced electronics, the Redi-Rail® system provided fast, accurate, and long-lasting linear guidance in a compact package, helping the rental machine operate reliably through repeated automated cycles.
Semiconductor wafer handling system
Semiconductor wafer handling equipment depends on extremely smooth, clean linear motion to protect delicate wafers during automated transport. In this example, an automation company needed a chatter-free vertical guide system for a SMIF Pod elevator used to position wafer cassettes for robotic pick-and-place loading. Any vibration, misalignment, lubrication, or particulate generation could shift wafers out of position, contaminate the process, or risk damaging a high-value wafer batch.
PBC Linear supplied a customized Uni-Guide linear slide using Simplicity® maintenance-free plain bearing technology and a Frelon®J liner for clean, lubrication-free motion in Class 10 cleanroom environments. The gliding linear guide system provided precise vertical travel without added lubricants, while minimizing particulate generation and vibration. As the project developed, PBC Linear expanded the solution into a turnkey assembly with motors, drive screws, guards, and limit switches, preassembled and tested for accurate travel and alignment before delivery.
This cleanroom-ready Uni-Guide solution helped the customer maintain smooth wafer transport, reduce contamination risk, and simplify integration into semiconductor processing equipment.
3D printer motion system
3D printers rely on precise, low-friction linear motion to control printhead and bed movement across the X, Y, and Z axes. In this example, Trinity Labs needed a more accurate and easier-to-assemble motion system for its RepRap retrofit kits and desktop 3D printers. The original dual-shaft system with bronze bushings required multiple parts, fixtures, and time-consuming alignment to prevent binding.
PBC Linear supplied a low-profile Uni-Guide™ linear guide system with SIMO® machined rail technology and FrelonGOLD® self-lubricating plain bearing pads bonded directly to the carriage. This two-piece rail-and-carriage design reduced alignment work, improved motion smoothness, and supported higher-quality print results. For the Aluminatus TrinityOne platform, Trinity Labs also used SIMO® Series lead screw driven rails with Constant Force™ lead screw technology, reducing the printer’s part count from about 400 pieces to 35 and cutting assembly time from roughly 40 hours to under 2 hours. The upgraded system improved repeatability from ±0.1 mm/m to ±0.02 mm/m and enabled finer 50-micron layer heights.
