Ball Bearing or Gliding Surface

Slew ring bearings are large-diameter rotational bearings designed to support axial, radial, and moment loads while enabling smooth rotation between two structures. Slew ring bearings are available in two types: ball bearing and self-lubricating gliding surface, with outer diameters ranging from 80 mm to 310 mm.

Ball bearing slewing rings provide maximum load capacity, making them well suited for higher-load and heavy-duty applications. Self-lubricating slew ring bearings incorporate polymer-lined gliding surfaces to enable maintenance-free operation, ideal for environments where regular lubrication is impractical or undesirable.

These slewing bearings are used across precision and industrial systems including solar tracking systems, medical devices, robotics, radar systems, and satellite antennas, where reliable rotational performance and long service life are critical.

Slew Rings FAQ

Ball Bearing Slewing Rings

Ball bearing slewing rings of the MT Series with diameters up to 12.205 inches (310 mm) with a maximum load capacity of 185,500 lb. Offering superior moment, thrust, and radial load capacities, the MT Series is the most reliable and long-lasting slewing ring bearing option for your application.

Features/Benefits of Ball Bearing Slewing Rings

  • Intermittent Rotation Under Heavy Loads: Slewing bearings handle large radial, axial, and moment loads of up to 185,000 lb with precision.
  • Inner and Outer Ring Design: Consists of an inner and outer steel ring, typically face-mounted with bolt hole patterns for easy installation.
  • MT Series Features: Provides economical solutions for diameters up to 12.205 inches (310 mm) with a rectangular cross-section and no gear teeth.
  • High Load Capacity: Designed for superior moment, thrust, and radial load capacities with deep groove raceways and large seals for increased performance and contamination protection.

Self- Lubricating Slewing Rings

With decades of expertise in self-lubricating bearings, PBC Linear launches our new slewing ring bearings that are maintenance-free, easy to install, and feature replaceable sliding elements in place of traditional ball bearings. Designed for high loads and rigidity, they incorporate self-lubricating plastic sliding pads within anodized aluminum inner and outer rings.

Thanks to their grease-free design, these slew ring bearings are suitable for a variety of environments, from clean rooms to highly contaminated workspaces.

Features/Benefits of Self- Lubricating Slewing Rings

  • Maintenance-Free Operation: All slewing ring bearings are completely self-lubricating, eliminating the need for grease and reducing maintenance.
  • Easy Installation: Designed with replaceable sliding elements, allowing for quick and simple assembly.
  • High Load Capacity & Rigidity: Engineered to withstand high loads up to 31,000 N while maintaining rigidity, making them ideal for demanding applications.
  • Lightweight & Cost-Effective Options: The P02 series offers a 30% lighter, low-cost solution with plastic screws for easy handling and installation.
  • Versatile Material Choices: Available with stainless steel rings and sliding pads in FDA-grade, high-temperature, and ESD-compliant materials to suit various environments and regulatory needs.
  • Wide Operating Range: Designed to perform reliably in temperatures from -40°C to 120°C (248°F), making them suitable for diverse conditions.
