Non-Captive Lead Screw Linear Actuator Motor Assemblies

Non-Captive Lead Screw Linear Actuators

Non-captive lead screw linear actuators are motorized assemblies in which the lead screw passes completely through the motor rather than being axially captured within the motor assembly. In a typical PBC Linear configuration, the screw is supported or fixed at both ends and rotates, while the motor and attached load are forced to travel linearly along the screw. This through-screw design allows the motorized load carriage to move along a fixed screw path, supporting compact layouts, longer travel lengths, and flexible machine integration. In other mounting arrangements, the motor may be held stationary while the screw moves axially through the motor as it rotates. Because non-captive systems do not include an internal guide mechanism, external linear guides are typically used to maintain alignment, increase stiffness, support applied loads, prevent screw deflection, and improve system life. Available in NEMA 08, 11, 14, 17, and 23 frame sizes, these actuators support a wide range of compact motion control applications.
