External-nut lead screw linear actuators convert motor rotation into linear motion using a lead screw integrated directly into the motor shaft and a nut positioned outside the motor body. As the motor rotates the screw, the restrained external nut is forced to travel axially in a straight line. The moving load can mount directly to the nut, while external guidance supports the load and prevents the nut from rotating. This simple architecture offers flexible mounting, compact construction, and precise, repeatable positioning for automation, adjustment, and motion-control applications.
PBC Linear® LE Series external-nut lead screw actuators are available in NEMA 08, 11, 14, 17, and 23 frame sizes, with multiple motor body lengths and both metric and imperial screw options. A broad selection of screw diameters and leads allows designers to balance torque, thrust, linear speed, and positioning resolution. Standard round nuts provide an economical solution for general motion applications, while optional anti-backlash nuts can be custom configured to reduce axial play for applications requiring greater positional accuracy and repeatability.
