PBC Linear provides linear motion systems for high-volume packaging and converting equipment used in conveying, filling, sealing, cutting, labeling, inspection, material handling, and web processing. These examples show how linear guides, actuators, and plain bearing technologies can improve safety, repeatability, reliability, and service life in demanding production environments.
Heavy-duty conveyor take-up systems
Conveyor take-up systems use linear motion to adjust belt tension and keep packaging lines running safely and reliably. In one application, an older take-up design using cold-rolled angle iron, V-wheels, and a floating wheel arrangement created a safety concern because the bearings could not be fully trapped. The upgraded design used a Hevi-Rail™ Heavy Duty Combined Bearing System with matched bearings and profile rails, allowing the tensioning wheel structure to be loaded securely from left to right. The result was a safer, more controlled, and longer-lasting conveyor adjustment system that helped the manufacturer retain customer business.
Packaging inspection systems
Camera-based inspection systems require precise, repeatable motion to detect small defects at high production volumes. In this example, a micro-molding inspection machine needed an XY stage to inspect molded parts measuring 5 to 8 mm, with defects as small as 1 mm². The original system used rubber wheel rollers on an aluminum frame, which caused hysteresis, unwanted motion, and maintenance problems. PBC Linear added a Uni-Guide® lead screw-driven plain bearing XY assembly (linear slide) using Simplicity® plain bearing technology with a bonded, self-lubricating FrelonGOLD® carriage underliner that runs directly on the shaft. Combined with a Teflon-coated lead screw and Constant Force™ anti-backlash nut, the system improves bidirectional positioning, reduces play, and delivers smoother, more reliable inspection motion.
Doctor blade bearings for converting and paper processing
Doctor blade systems operate in harsh converting and paper mill environments where steam, water, corrosion, dust, heat, and vibration can cause rolling-element bearings to seize or fail. PBC Linear doctor blade bearings use plain bearing technology with no rolling elements, helping prevent catastrophic bearing failure in both wet-end and dry-end applications. Their self-lubricating Frelon® liner reduces shock and vibration while withstanding caustic chemicals, high loads, and elevated temperatures. With 316 stainless steel housings available for chemical resistance and installations lasting more than a decade, these bearings support long service life, reduced downtime, and lower maintenance in demanding web-processing environments.
