Heavy-duty drawer slides are telescoping linear rail systems, normally made from industrial steel, designed to extend cantilevered trays, panels, bins, platforms, and service modules under high loads where rigidity and guided support are critical. They typically use a ball cage assembly between two telescoping rails: a fixed rail mounted to the machine frame or support structure, and a moving rail attached to the tray, panel, or platform. When the platform is pushed or pulled, the fixed and moving rails slide back and forth relative to each other while the ball cage travels within the length of the fixed rail, usually moving about half the distance of the moving rail, providing low-friction bearing action and guidance while keeping the steel balls spaced, aligned, and rolling between the rail surfaces.
Partial extension drawer slides extend only part of the rail length because some overlap must remain between the fixed rail, moving rail, and ball cage to support the load. Full extension drawer slides use additional telescoping rail geometry so the supported tray, panel, or platform can travel farther, often exposing its full usable length beyond the fixed mounting structure. The rail assembly controls the extension and retraction path, while stops, latches, locks, friction, or the surrounding machine hold the moving platform in position when needed.
The PBC Linear industrial drawer slide product family is manufactured in the US and uses zinc-plated, hardened steel rails with precision ball cage mechanisms to provide high load capacity, corrosion resistance, and consistent motion over extended travel. The family includes four main configurations: SDP industrial steel partial extension drawer slides, which serve as the foundational rail platform; SDB rear mount full extension drawer slides for maximum reach from a compact mounting footprint; SDF face mount full extension drawer slides for added protection around the ball cage and rolling elements; and SDS full extension side-by-side drawer slides, called S-Beam, for narrow spaces where two rails are mounted on the same side of the load to maintain stiffness in a slim envelope. These drawer slides are built from cold-drawn steel rails induction hardened to 56.5–60.5 HRC and zinc-plated for corrosion resistance. Precision steel ball elements reduce friction, vibration, and noise, while the heavy-duty construction supports reliable load-supported cantilevered extension.
