Steel Linear Rail Guides - Standard Steel Rail from PBC Linear

Steel Rail Standard Linear Guides

Steel Rail Standard linear guides are cam roller linear guide systems that use a fixed U-shaped steel rail and a moving aluminum carriage to provide smooth, controlled linear motion. The high-strength aluminum carriages use three to five steel cam rollers that run along the hardened steel raceways. Concentric rollers carry the load, while eccentric rollers provide adjustment to remove play and set preload for greater rigidity and stability.

Adjustable preload allows the carriage to be tuned for the application while maintaining low rolling resistance and consistent contact with the rail. Steel Rail Standard supports dynamic loads up to 19,650 N and combines high rigidity with smooth travel for demanding automation and material handling applications. Integrated oil-soaked felt wipers continuously lubricate the raceways, while scraper blades help remove dust, debris, and other contaminants before they reach the rolling surfaces.

Steel rails are available in lengths up to 3,200 mm with pre-drilled mounting holes. Standard counterbore mounting uses flat-bottom recesses for thin-head screws that sit flush or below the rail surface, while custom countersunk mounting can be selected through the Configure option for tapered screws that sit fully flush. The combination of hardened steel raceways, adjustable cam rollers, compact aluminum carriages, and integrated lubrication makes Steel Rail Standard well suited for high-speed automation, material handling, machine building, and other industrial linear motion systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between concentric and eccentric cam rollers in a linear guide?
Concentric cam rollers are mounted on a centered axle and primarily carry the load. Eccentric cam rollers use an offset axle that allows their position to be adjusted, helping remove play and set the desired preload against the rail.
Why are eccentric cam rollers adjustable?
The offset axle lets the roller move slightly closer to or farther from the rail as it is turned. This adjustment is used to control clearance, reduce looseness, and increase rigidity.
Do concentric and eccentric cam rollers perform the same job?
They work together but serve different purposes. Concentric rollers provide the primary fixed rolling support, while eccentric rollers provide the adjustment needed to establish proper contact and preload.
