Integrated step-servo ball screw actuators combine a hybrid step motor, a precision ball screw, and a fully integrated drive and motion controller in a single package. In the TSM Series design, the ball screw is integrated directly with the motor shaft while the ball nut is mounted externally, so that as the motor rotates the external nut travels linearly along the screw to produce controlled linear motion. Because the drive electronics and controller are built into the motor body, the actuator requires only DC power and a command connection, eliminating the separate drive, the panel space it occupies, and the motor cabling that runs between them.
The TSM Series pairs the high mechanical efficiency of a ball screw with closed-loop step-servo control, delivering high thrust, smooth motion, and repeatable positioning without the tuning burden of a conventional servo system. Each actuator accepts step-and-direction or CW/CCW pulse input and can run as a standalone axis using stored Q programs or be commanded over RS-485 using Modbus/RTU, with up to 32 devices on a single channel. The NEMA 11, 17, and 23 models add A/B differential pulse input and SCL motion commands, and the NEMA 17 and 23 models support RS-485 daisy-chain wiring. Configurable digital I/O supports servo enable, alarm reset, CW/CCW limit, in-position, moving, brake, timing, and tach functions, with the full set of functions available on the NEMA 17 and 23 models and a reduced selection on the NEMA 08 and 11 frames, and built-in protection covers overvoltage, undervoltage, over-temperature, and motor winding short circuit. The series is RoHS compliant, rated for Class B (130°C) insulation, and operates across a temperature range of 0°C to +50°C with a step accuracy of ±5%.
These actuators are available in NEMA 08, 11, 17, and 23 frame sizes with ball screw nominal diameters from 4 mm to 12 mm, with multiple lead options in the NEMA 11, 17, and 23 frames. Input voltage scales with frame size, and the larger frames add analog command input and expanded I/O, with differential A/B/Z encoder output available on the NEMA 23 models. Screws are supplied either unmachined or with standard end machining for direct coupling to bearing supports and driven members.
