Open Linear Bearing - Polymer Lining

EconoGlide Plain Linear Bearings - Open

Open-shelled plain linear bearings are designed to clear shaft support structures on rail-supported shafting or profiled rails while maintaining smooth, supported linear motion. This makes them useful for applications that need added system rigidity from continuously supported shafts, including rails molded on two sides to resemble supported shafting. EconoGlide® open bearings use an injection-molded Frelon® IM polymer liner with lubricant impregnated into the liner pores for maintenance-free operation, providing a cost-effective choice for accessible machinery where short downtime is the norm. Inner-diameter channels help move dust away from the shaft surface, making them well suited for dirty, dusty or clean environments where vibration, shock, oscillation, or rotational motion can seize up recirculating ball bearings. For truly harsh or hard-to-access applications where downtime is costly, PBC Linear premium Simplicity® plain linear bearings are typically the better choice. Available in ISO metric sizes from 10 mm to 50 mm, EconoGlide open bearings support linear motion with static load capacities up to 20,198 lb. (89.85 kN), speeds up to 1.5 m/s, and an operating temperature range of -58°F to +194°F (-50°C to +90°C). Constructed with anodized aluminum shells, they include mounting options such as O-ring and retaining ring grooves.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between open and closed linear bearings?
Closed linear bearings fully surround the shaft and are typically used on end-supported round shafting. Open linear bearings have a cutaway section that allows them to run on rail-supported round shafts or profiled rails. In this case, a profiled rail is shaped with round bearing surfaces on two sides to resemble supported round shafts while providing added rigidity. This support helps reduce shaft deflection in longer or higher-load systems.
